“To be a smart person in Wiradjuri is to sit down & listen.”
— Jonathan Jones
In the Wiradjuri language, one of the many Aboriginal languages in Australia, the word “wudhadhuray” literally translates to “having ears”, and this is the word used to mean “intelligent”.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve encountered a conflict or an area of tension that could be resolved by all parties just listening in a real & present way to each other. We’re often so busy thinking of our own wounds that we neglect to hear someone else. And yet, true listening is one of the deepest signs of emotional intelligence.
I strive to be more wudhadhuray each and every day. Join me?
